
Another slow performance for the Missouri Tigers in the third quarter doomed the women’s basketball team to their 11th loss in the SEC, falling 73-65 on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Mizzou Arena to the 14th ranked Kentucky Wildcats.
The game was evenly matched in the first half, with two three-point baskets from Grace Slaughter giving Mizzou the lead, followed by an Ashton Judd tray that ultimately resulted in the Tigers having a 34-31 advantage at the half. The Tigers and Wildcats were tied at 42 halfway through the third before Kentucky went on a nine-point run to take control. Mizzou shot only 25 percent in the third quarter, compared to Kentucky’s 78 percent, and lost seven defensive rebounds to the ‘Cats. Mizzou got within two twice in the final frame, but were unable to get even, ultimately allowing Kentucky to score the final six points of the game.
Laniah Randle scored 21 points and claimed 13 rebounds to lead Mizzou, while Grace Slaughter added 18 points. Clara Strack had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Kentucky, one of four visiting players in double figures.
The Tigers fall to 13-15 overall, with a 2-11 conference mark. Mizzou visit Ole Miss Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
