Robert Thomas claimed his 100th career goal Saturday, Feb. 22, but his milestone wasn’t enough for the St Louis Blues as the Winnipeg Jets pulled off the comeback with a 4-3 shootout win at Enterprise Center, extending their winning streak to nine contests.

Thomas’ milestone goal came with 4:30 remaining in the first period, when he claimed Pavel Buchnevich’s pass from the board and drove ahead of the Jets to lift his shot past Eric Comrie. Thomas would also score 16 seconds into the third with a wrap-around jam into goal, which Buchnevich also assisted on. Both goals erased Winnipeg leads. The Blues took the lead on a four-minute power play when Thomas returned the favor for Buchnevich, who slapped his shot into the net from the left side.

The Blues were 28 seconds away from victory when Winnipeg, who had pulled Comrie to add a sixth attacker, forced overtime. Kyle Connor’s delivery toward goal deflected off the stick of Gabriel Vilardi, who angled it past Joel Hofer and into the net. Connor also had the only successful attempt in the shootout to give Winnipeg the win and keep them atop the Central Division standings with a league-leading 83 points.

The Blues registered 24 shots on goal, while Hofer stopped 25 of Winnipeg’s 28 shots. The Blues pick up a point for going to overtime, but are now seven points behind Vancouver for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Blues’ home stand continues Sunday with Colorado paying a visit to Enterprise Center; puck drop is at 5 p.m.
