
Edward Donald Sander, 90, of rural Alma, MO, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at The Living Center in Marshall, MO.
Edward was born on March 10, 1934, at the family farm north of Alma. He was the third of three children born to Arthur and Frieda (Wagner) Sander. He was baptized on March 22, 1934, at the family home by Pastor August H. Griesse. His sponsors were grandfathers Herman Wagner, Sr. and John Sander. Edward attended Trinity Lutheran School in Alma for eight years and was confirmed on March 21, 1948.
After graduating from Alma High School in 1952 Edward worked on the family farm. In 1956 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served 16 months in the peacekeeping effort in Korea. He was discharged in 1958. On September 28, 1958, he and Barbara Matthews were married at Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor A.F.C. Pfotenhauer. Edward was a full-time farmer raising livestock and grain.
Edward was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he held various offices, taught adult Bible class, sang in the choir, and was a member of the L.L.L. Men’s Club. He also attended the Thursday Morning Bible Class in Concordia, MO. Edward enjoyed music, reading, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
Edward is survived by his wife Barbara Sander of the home, a daughter Melinda Means and husband Perry of Shawnee, KS, a son Murray and wife Dana of Alma, a granddaughter Macy Ogle and husband Christopher of Berryton, KS, a grandson Bryan Sander and wife Ashton of Alma, a granddaughter Molly Rehkop and husband Darin of Alma, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Dorthy Sander in childhood and Mildred Steffens.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma, with Pastor Bernard Ross officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
