The Slater School District Board of Education will take another month to finalize the school calendar for the 2025-26 school year.
The board postponed action at Monday’s meeting on the calendar. Supt. Dr Terry Lorenz says the board and local teachers association are working out some of the final details.
Lorenz notes that a recent change in state law now encourages districts to have school for at least 169 days to receive additional funding, intended for boosts to teacher salaries.
The Slater School Board approved several policies Monday, Feb. 23 pertaining to the district’s wellness program and use of tobacco and similar products. The board also gave second reading to fiscal management policies and first reading to policies pertaining to support services. Also Monday night, the board recognized five students who are candidates to attend Boys’ State and Girls’ State this summer: Kendall Guthrie, Libby Smith, Ben Gochenour, Robert Pannell, and Tytan Wiseman. In executive session, the board approved extending the contracts for current principals Becky Drummond and Jessica Clements.
