The Carrollton R-VII School Board received an update from Supt. Dr Tinna Croy earlier this month about the progress lawmakers are making on bills to allow open enrollment among the state’s public schools.
Croy tells KMMO News that the board remains uncommitted to a position on the issue.
Over 200 school boards across Missouri have adopted resolutions critical of the idea, including Concordia and Marshall.
Open enrollment is addressed in Senate Bill 215, sponsored by Sen. Curtis Trent (R-Springfield), which awaits consideration on the Senate Floor after passing through the Education Committee. Similar legislation in the house (House Bill 711), proposed by Rep. Brad Pollitt (R-Sedalia), cleared the House’s Legislative Rules Committee on Tuesday.
