Eligible Saline County property owners can begin submitting their application for the senior tax credit as early as Saturday, March 1, and could see its impact as soon as their next tax bill in the fall.

The Saline County Collector’s Office will begin processing applications Monday, with homeowners 62 years and older able to apply until August 31st to begin receiving the credit on their primary residence. Collector Cindi Sims says those who meet the deadline and qualify should see the credit apply to their bills this fall.

Sims says those who receive the credit this year could see relief from anticipated increases in assessed valuation. However, she says that even with the credit, there are still ways that a senior’s property taxes can increase.

Saline County Senior Tax Credit applications were sent in the mail earlier this week to 1300 residents who has expressed interest in applying. The applications will also be available in the Collector’s Office. Completed applications can be submitted in person to the Collector’s Office, by mail, or placed in the drop box along the circle drive on the east side of the Saline County Courthouse.
