The Odessa Bulldogs are celebrating another boys wrestling state title, following their successful defense of the Class Two crown Thursday, Feb. 27 in Columbia.

Two Bulldog wrestlers claimed individual titles to help Odessa build a total of 142 points, 13 ahead of runners-up Seneca. Blaine Wallace claimed a major decision over Eli Manley of Seneca in the 132-pound championship match to cap his season with a 26-1 mark, while Jet Brown claimed a technical fall in four minutes over Ste Genevieve’s Drake Meyer to win the 144-pound class. Kamden Hooper finished second in the 138-pound class, suffering a sudden loss to Brant Laughlin of Seneca, who capped a perfect 52-0 season. Brady Jones was defeated in the 126-pound championship bout by Christopher Ankenman of Tolton Catholic. Michael Scott placed third in the 175-pound class, losing to eventual state champion Grant Van Horn of Mexico in the semifinals but posting wins over Kason Clark of Nevada and Will Golder of Clinton to move up the podium.

The Centralia Panthers completed their dominant performance in Class One, rolling to the state title with 198 points. That was 75.5 points better than second-place Brookfield and more than double the 96 points collected by third-place Marceline. Rex Bryson (165) and Bryson Dubes (106) claimed individual titles for Centralia, who had all ten of their wrestlers make podium. Brookfield’s Devan Parn and Peyton Parn both completed undefeated seasons, as Devan claimed a 3:35 fall of South Harrison’s Mayson Edwards in the 190-pound state title bout, while Peyton Parn secured a perfect campaign in the 138-pound class with a technical fall in 79 seconds of Drake Schmidt of Versailles. Marceline’s Scout Gooch won the 215-pound class title with a major decision over Crae Coffey of South Harrison, while Brandon Brewer of Versailles won the 120-pound title with a major decision win over Nolan Laux of Fatima.

Brookfield is also celebrating a second-place team title in the girls Class One championship. The Bulldogs claimed 94 points, eight shy of state champions Kearney. Odessa finished tied for fifth on 65.5 points. Brookfield’s Jayden Keller capped a perfect season, with her 45th win of the year coming over DeSoto’s Cheyenne Kindade when she claimed a fall in just 16 seconds for the 110-pound title. Teammate Mya Sackrey also secured a state title, needing five-and-a-half minutes to secure the fall of Clinton’s Amitria McNack to top the 155-pound class. Lillian McCleary of Lone Jack (105), Yoo Jung Lee of Chillicothe (125), Emily Bischoff of Odessa (130), and Breanne Gibbs of Moberly (145) are also state champions, with Gibbs completing a perfect 54-0 season.
