Laniah Randle’s steal and lay-up with two seconds remaining proved to be the difference, and perhaps the play of the season, for the Missouri Tigers as they defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks 75-73 on Thursday, Feb. 27 at Bud Walton Arena, giving outgoing coach Robin Pingeton her 250th victory as a Tiger.
Randle was well-positioned to steal the ball from Arkansas’ Kiki Smith on an inbound pass at mid-court, as the Razorbacks had just called their last timeout to advance the ball and set up for their attempt to win the game. Randle quickly broke away and beat a pair of Razorbacks to the hoop, netting the game winner to cap her 20-point night to lead the Tigers.
Mizzou had posted an early five-point lead, only for Arkansas to flip the script and lead by eight in the second quarter. Arkansas’ lead was gone in the third quarter when Tilda Sjökvist and De’Myla Brown combined to sink three three-point baskets to put Mizzou ahead. Neither team led by more than four points in the final quarter, as the lead changed 14 times throughout the game, along with 15 ties.
The Tigers shot 39.4 percent from the field, including a 47 percent mark in the fourth quarter as they outscored Arkansas 27-24. Sjökvist had 13 points from the bench, while Grace Slaughter also claimed 13 points and Brown added 10. Mizzou improve to 14-16 on the year, with a 3-12 mark in the SEC. The Tigers’ conference season concludes Sunday at Mizzou Arena against Vanderbilt.
