29 Saline County Career Center DECA students participated in the district-level competition at UMKC on Tuesday, February 25, with 13 members advancing to the state competition.
These students competed in various events for a chance to represent their district at the State Career Development Conference. The SCCC DECA students who received recognition on Wednesday include Vanesa Cortes, Allison Gary, Mariela Hernandez, Michelle Lin, Peyton Marshall, Sofie Messing, Heidi Jimenez Ruiz, Ethan Russell, Manny Suarez, Trevor Watkins, and Mattie Weaver.
Weaver was awarded the title of leadership delegate and will automatically represent SCCC DECA at the international competition this year in Orlando, Florida. Lin was awarded the West Central District Advisors Memorial Scholarship, which is a one-time $500 award given to a graduating high school senior who will attend an accredited two-four-year institution to continue his/her study of marketing and/or management.
The state competition will be held March 23-25 at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City.
