Over 50 juniors from five of Saline County’s high schools will make their way around the courthouse Friday for the return of County Government Day.

The event is organized by the Malta Bend American Legion Memorial Post 558. Adjutant Steve Olson says the annual event is an opportunity for students to learn about the importance of local government.

Students will then take a tour of each county office. Olson adds he hopes participating students will gain an appreciation and interest for becoming involved in their communities.

Olson says the county’s American Legion posts first launched County Government Day in the 1950s, but hadn’t been hosted for years because of the pandemic. Friday’s tour will conclude with visits to Missouri Valley College and the Saline County Justice Facility.
