The Marshall City Council has passed an ordinance rezoning the site of the future gas turbine power plant.
The council gave second reading to the ordinance Tuesday, March 4, rezoning the land between Grant and Voorhees streets from light industrial to heavy industrial. Along with the regular appropriations measures, the ordinance was the only one considered by council during their brief meeting.
Several minutes of Tuesday’s meeting was dedicated to the annual update of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program, as required by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Third Ward Councilman Don Brandt provided the report, which included a recap of the city’s public outreach efforts to educate residents about the importance of not polluting.
Brandt also noted that 2500 bags of pet waste were properly used in the city’s park system to keep it from entering the stormwater system. He also touched on the city’s efforts to identify illicit discharges into the system.
The Marshall City Council next meets March 18.
