
Robert Thomas knotted the game up for the St Louis Blues with a power-play goal in the second period, then netted the game-winning goal in the shootout to secure a 3-2 road win at the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, March 5.
Thomas’ goal just before the end of the second period was his 17th of the year, extending his points streak to 11 games. Jake Neighbours scored the Blues’ first goal with 1:10 remaining in the first period, only for the Kings’ Quinton Byfield to tie the game 30 seconds later. Trevor Moore gave the Kings their only lead with a tip-in halfway through the second period. Neighbours also scored in the shootout to give the Blues the 2-1 advantage after a scoreless overtime.
The Blues recorded 30 shots on goal, while the Kings recorded 23 attempts, 21 of them stopped by Jordan Binnington. The Blues kept pace with Calgary and Vancouver, still trailing the two by one point in the wild card standings, with the Canucks and Flames still claiming two games in hand. The West Coast jaunt for the Blues continues Friday night when they visit the Anaheim Ducks; puck drop is at 9 p.m.
