
The Marshall High School Debate Squad claimed the team sweepstakes title at the MSHSAA Class One, District Seven tournament Thursday, March 6 at Missouri Valley College.
The squad took the top two spots in public forum, with Tyler Surface and Liam Conner placing first, ahead of Brianna Carrillo and Elizabeth Granillo. Both duos qualify for next month’s state tournament in Springfield. Aiden Astoga and Jackson Cott also competed in public forum, advancing to the quarterfinals. Marshall also qualified two students in Lincoln-Douglas Debate: Michelle Lin finished second, while Piper Brunson was fourth.
Marshall’s next tournament will be the weekend of March 15th in Independence at the National Speech and Debate Association’s Heart of America qualifier.
