Over 30 juniors from Saline County’s high schools made their way through the Saline County Courthouse on Friday, March 7 for the American Legion’s annual County Government Day.

Among today’s participants was Joey Rapp from Sweet Springs. Rapp tells KMMO News that the tour showed first-hand the importance of county government and becoming involved in the community.

Attendees began their day in the circuit court room, where county leaders delivered brief speeches about their roles in Saline County government and the need for youth to become active in their community when they graduate high school. Lindsey Shahan of Sweet Springs says several leadership roles she’s taken in school are helping her prepare for that opportunity.

Saline County’s American Legion posts led by Adjutant Steve Olson at Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 organized today’s tour.
