Three area schools will have girls’ basketball teams playing in the Show-Me Showdown next weekend in Columbia, while a fourth saw their season end in double overtime Saturday, March 8.
The Rock Port Blue Jays dealt the Santa Fe Chiefs a 75-69 defeat after two extra frames in Saturday’s Class One quarterfinal. It was a heartbreaking loss for Santa Fe on the very floor where their volleyball team had swept Rock Port just four months earlier to punch their ticket to state. Santa Fe’s season concludes with a 21-6 record, while Rock Port will take their 26-4 mark to Mizzou Arena on Friday night, where they will have to face the top-ranked Cairo Bearcats, after Cairo’s 62-34 victory over Princeton. Walnut Grove and Chadwick are in the other Class One girls semifinal.
Tipton (26-4) punched their ticket to the Class Two semifinals with a 65-43 victory over Clopton. They’ll match up against Saint Vincent of Perryville in their semifinal Friday morning, followed by Norwood and Skyline. Lone Jack trotted past Mid-Buchanan 48-43 to book a spot in the Class Three semifinals. The 25-3 Mules will face Fair Grove on Wednesday afternoon, while Principia of Saint Louis and Portageville battle in the other contest.
