The city of Moberly is working on a long-term, multi phase inspection and rehabilitation of its downtown sewer mains.

The work began last week with Phase One, with technicians using trucks that push high pressure water through the sewer main from manhole to manhole and then vacuum away debris from the system. Community Relations Manager Scott McGarvey says this work is necessary due to the age of the sewer system in the downtown area, which is more than 100 years old.

McGarvey says technicians will inspect the sewer main to locate defects or breaks that need repairing.

This project is the last of six projects funded by federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) grants that Moberly received in recent years. Funding was also provided by the Downtown Community Improvement District (CID).
