The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Music Arts program will present its spring concerts at 7 p.m. March 11 for the instrumental concert and March 13 for the choral performance in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.

The concerts will feature the SFCC Chamber Choir, Contemporary Choir, Jazz Band and Concert Band performing music from various eras and styles. A special guest performance will be given by Smith-Cotton High School’s New Score Singers, directed by Avery Mather and accompanied by Susan Prisendorf.

On March 11, the Jazz Band will begin its set with “Jumpin’ at the Woodside,” followed by “Summertime,” featuring vocals by Emma Miller, “Mas Que Nada” and “Soul Man.” The Concert Band will perform “Aces of the Air” and “Of Dark Lord and Ancient Kings,” featuring narration by SFCC President Dr. Brent Bates, and will conclude with “John Williams in Concert.”

On March 13, the Chamber Choir will perform “Apple Tree,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Lacrimosa” and “Kuimba Nafsi Yangu.” The Contemporary Choir will perform “Seven Bridges Road” and “Forever Country,” along with “Corn” from Shucked, featuring soloists Emma Miller, Colton Motsinger and Mary Caroline Campbell. The combined choirs will perform “I Love You/What a Wonderful World,” featuring soloist Marcuis Lamar, and “The Awakening.”

SFCC instructor Dr. Christopher Kindle, directs the choirs, accompanied by Cheryl McCollester. Percussionist Russ Scupp and bassist Tom Ray will provide instrumental support. SFCC instrumental music instructor Joe Schreimann, will direct the Jazz Band and Concert Band.
