The City of Marshall has learned that it has earned Tree City USA status.

The designation, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizes cities who make a commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit their community. Mayor Vince Lutterbie says the designation will also allow Marshall to access a variety of resources to encourage tree management across the city.

Lutterbie adds the city has already tapped some of those resources.

Cities receiving the Tree City USA designation commit to establishing a tree board or department, spend at least two dollars per resident on urban forestry programs, pass a community tree ordinance, and regularly proclaim an Arbor Day celebration.
