The Lone Jack Mules are celebrating a third-place title, following their 48-39 victory over Portageville on Thursday, March 13 in the Class Three girls third-place game at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
The Mules wrap up the season with a 26-4 mark, including both the I-70 Conference tournament and regular season championships. Lone Jack had lost Wednesday afternoon to Fair Grove, who went on to claim their third straight Class Three girls title with a 39-33 win over Principia of St Louis.
Fair Grove’s win denied Principia the sweep they were seeking, as their boys team had earlier dispatched the Gators of KIPP KC Legacy 76-56 to win that Class Three title. Thayer took care of Woodland in the third place game, 68-61.
The Lincoln Cardinals returned from Columbia with a fourth-place trophy in tow from the Class Two boys tournament. The Cardinals fell to Puxico in the third-place contest 61-38, closing out their year with a 23-6 record, including a 9-1 mark in the Kaysinger Conference and a runner-up finish to Sacred Heart in the conference tournament. Eugene outlasted Canton to win the Class Two title, 72-61.
Three area teams are on their way to Columbia to continue their quest for a state title Friday. The Tipton girls tip things off at 10 a.m. against St Vincent of Perryville in a Class Two semifinal, followed by Norwood and Skyline. The Braymer Bobcats will go up against St Elizabeth in a Class One boys semifinal at 4 p.m., while Chadwick and Wheatland face off in the other. The Northeast Bearcats of Cairo will battle Rock Port in a Class One girls semifinal at 8 p.m., preceded by Chadwick and Walnut Grove.
