Smith-Cotton High School senior Marlene Rubio has been selected to participate in the Missouri Fine Arts Academy this summer at Missouri State University in Springfield.

The academy, scheduled for June 1-14, allows students to explore artistic techniques and gain knowledge in their primary discipline and the disciplines of the academy. It helps students learn processes for creating, revising and presenting their work.

Rubio, a student in S-C’s Queen City CAPS program, is a graphic artist who has created illustrations for district events, including the high school’s fall musical, “The Wizard of Oz.”

All students who successfully complete MFAA will receive college credit from Missouri State University at no additional cost. Faculty and staff for the academy are artists and educators representing K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and public/private art enterprises.
