Carrollton residents whose security systems generate multiple false alarms could soon incur fines from the town.

The Town Council discussed an ordinance at Monday night’s meeting to set out at which point the city would start taking action against a property owner with a faulty security system. Mayor Susie Bliss says Carrollton is wanting to cut down on the number of false calls made to first responders, while still providing some leeway for residents to correct issues before they get out of hand.

Bliss adds that false alarms caused by electrical outages or severe storms would not be included in a resident’s quarterly count.

Also at Monday night’s meeting, the town council set restrictions on how long tents can remain standing in residential zones.

The Carrollton Town Council also approved its budget for the next fiscal year, and amended a pair of office titles. The administrative assistant is now the operations administrator, while the financial assistant is now known as the financial officer. Bliss says that changes to the personnel manual were discussed, with additional revisions needed before Carrollton’s next council meeting, set for April 7.
