The need list is long for several of the 100 miles of roadways within the City of Marshall, but available funds could lead to a short project list for the next year.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Marshall City Council discussed an initial list of roads that could be included on the streets program for 2025. However, third ward councilman Dan Brandt notes that that funds are limited, especially as prices continue to increase.
Another 30 streets are listed for slurry coating, which brings the total of potential projects to $788,482. Brandt says the total project list will likely be trimmed down to around $600,000. He warns that the city is currently drawing on funds from the now-defunct sanitation department, a practice that is not sustainable.
The street program was discussed during Councilman Brandt’s report of the Municipal Services and Personnel Committee. He mentioned the possibility that voters may be asked to consider a tax increase at a future election; however, he added that those discussions are still very early.
Also during Tuesday night’s meeting, the Marshall City Council accepted the lone bid from Quality Lawncare for mowing services at $195 per mowing at the City Office Building and Martin Community Center. They also accepted the lone bid for lawn treatment services from EZ Green, totaling $1350.
