
Two Marshall High School students qualified for the National Tournament following their performance at the Heart of America District Speech-Debate Tournament this past weekend.
The Heart of America District is largest district in the United States, made up of High Schools in the Kansas City area.
Michelle Lin took first in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, beating out 63 other entries. Brianna Carrillo finished in second in Program Interpretation, also qualifying for the National Tournament.
Maya Mackey advanced to the round of 16 in Lincoln-Douglas before being eliminated. Jasmine Davis advanced to the semifinals in Dramatic, placing 10th out of 40.
Lin and Carrillo will be the 24th and 25 students in MHS history to compete at the National Tournament. The 100th Nationals Speech and Debate Tournament will be held in Des Moines, Iowa in June.
