The Glasgow R-II Board of Education adopted an updated policy concerning student meal charges during their meeting Wednesday, March 20.
Supt. Stacey Kottman tells KMMO News the updates came at the recommendation of their policy advisers, Missouri Consultants for Education. Kottman says the updates concern how complaints can be lodged to USDA, adding that the policy now allows parents and students who believe they’ve been discriminated against can file their complaint through the superintendent’s office. The updated policy also includes a “Buy American” clause, expressing a commitment to purchase domestic commodities and products to the maximum extent possible. Kottman says while Glasgow purchases a significant amount through government commodity programs, several school meals have featured locally raised beef donated through the “MO Beef for MO Kids” program backed by the Missouri Beef Industry Council.
Also at Wednesday night’s meeting, the Glasgow School Board approved a bid from Tri-County Trust Company to continue providing the district’s banking services for the next two years, and approved a proposal from Quality Network Solutions totaling $35,866.78 for a new server and some updated computers and Chromebooks. The board also reviewed teacher evaluations and offered contracts for the next school year, while approving the hire of Gwen Clemens as the new high school secretary and Shauna Thompson as a paraprofessional. The board also accepted the resignation at the end of the school year of vocal music teacher Elizabeth Driskell and ag teaacher Sam Koenig.
