Marshall Head Baseball Coach Ian Verts spoke about his return to the Marshall High School Baseball program ahead of the team’s first regular season action on Saturday, March 22.

Verts, who also coaches Marshall’s Football program in the fall, took over the role after previous head coach Greg Woodring stepped down in 2024. Verts talked about some of the key differences between the two sports, noting that baseball focuses more on the individual actions and battles on the field.

Verts previously coached the program from 2007-2015. He says his coaching staff has been focused on helping their players become better contact hitters this spring.

Verts says the teams has its sights set on a deep district tournament run in May.

The Owls have won at least one district playoff game every season since 2016. This includes a fourth place finish at the Class 4 State Tournament in 2022.

Marshall opens the 2025 season with a triangular against Tipton and Chillicothe on Saturday, March 22. Coverage from the first games gets underway at 10:50 a.m. on KMMO AM 1300 and on KMMO.com.
