The Mizzou Tigers are one-and-done in the NCAA Tournament, struggling to keep up with a pack of former Northwest Bearcats in a 67-57 loss to 11th-seeded Drake on Thursday, March 20 in first-round action in Wichita.

The Tigers had early defensive successes, forcing four Drake turnovers in their first six possessions, but the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to take a 13-7 lead. They then extended the lead to 28-18, which saw Mizzou turn the ball over four times while make just one basket. The Tigers trailed at the half 30-23, and went even colder to start the second half, with Drake leading by as much as 15 at one point. Mizzou shot just 33 percent from the field, but had an uncanny ability to draw fouls and convert free throws, missing only one of their 17 attempts in the second half to try and close the gap. Instead, the Tigers find their 29th trip to the NCAA Tournament ending the same as all their previous trips: falling short of the Final Four.

Caleb Grill led Mizzou with 14 points, while Tamar Bates added 10. Drake was led by Bennett Stirtz, who had 21 points. Stirtz was one of four former Northwest Bearcats who played in the game; the four accounted for 34 of Drake’s 67 points, leading the Bulldogs into a second-round tilt against third-seeded Texas Tech on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Tigers season ends with a record of 22-12.
