Martha Jean Self, 85, of Marshall, formerly of Slater, died Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Hartland Residential Care Center in Marshall.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Slater United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rodney Haggett officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born September 26, 1939 in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Rose Yowell Sullivan. On December 24, 1994 in Slater, she married Gary L. Self, and he preceded her in death on July 7, 2015.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean R. Smith of Oak Grove; a son, Garrett Lee Bucksath and his wife Jen of Liberty; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Kent; and a brother, Boyd “Buddy” Sullivan.

Mrs. Self attended Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall, and was a member of the American Legion Post #78 Auxiliary. She was a licensed beautician, and owned and operated Martha’s Beauty Shop for fifty-five years until her retirement.
