
The St Louis Blues have opened up a lead in the chase for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, after a second 4-1 victory in as many days, this time defeating Nashville on Sunday, March 23 at Enterprise Center.
Jordan Kyrou picked up his 30th goal of the year to open the scoring for St Louis, netting a snap shot 12 minutes into the game. Alexandre Texier added a second goal with just over three minutes to go in the first during a power play. Filip Forsberg had Nashville’s only goal, claiming it late in the second, also during a power play. The Blues restored the margin halfway through the third with a wrist shot from Justin Faulk, then sealed the game with Brayden Schenn’s empty-netter with 38 seconds remaining.
The Blues only registered 18 shots on goal, while Jordan Binnington stopped 31 of Nashville’s shots.
With ten games remaining in the Blues’ schedule, St Louis have a four-point lead on Calgary for the second wild card spot, and trail Minnesota for the first wild card position by four points. However, both Calgary and Vancouver were idle, with Calgary now holding onto three extra games and Vancouver two. Calgary will host Seattle on Tuesday night, while Vancouver visit the New Jersey Devils on Monday evening. As for the Blues, they return to Enterprise Center for a clash Tuesday night against Montréal. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
