police-arrest-1

A Slater woman is facing several charges for embezzling funds from a government organization following an investigation conducted by the Saline County Sheriff’s Department.

According to a probable cause statement, a witness met with the Sheriff’s Department with information indicating that an employee has been stealing money from the organizations checking account from 2017-2024. The employee was identified as Stephanie Meyer, who works part-time with the organization and has a salary of $3,878.70 per year after Social Security and Medicare are taken out.

Authorities reviewed financial documents, which reportedly showed Meyer writing numerous checks to herself with amounts significantly higher than her yearly salary. Meyer allegedly made payments to herself totaling $75,361.34 since 2017, about $46,000 more than what she should have made during that time frame.

The witness also provided transaction history for the organization’s account, which showed six orders totaling $327.02 being shipped to Meyer’s home address.

A deputy made contact with Meyer on March 21, and placed her under arrest. During the process, Meyer denied stealing from the organization.

Meyer is facing charges for stealing $25,000 or more, forgery, and fraudulent use of a credit/debit device. She posted bond on March 24.

An initial appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Saline County Circuit Court.
