A Blackburn man is facing an assault charge following an overnight domestic disturbance and standoff outside Blackburn.

The Saline County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Andrew Christopher Souder with second-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. According to the probable cause statement, deputies responded to a call at a home in the Blackburn area before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, after Souder allegedly grabbed his romantic partner by the throat. The victim and her child left the home, but returned a couple hours later to collect belongings. According to the statement, that’s when Souder allegedly discharged a shotgun three times, and pursued the victim’s vehicle on a motorcycle before returning to their home.

In a news release, Saline County Sheriff Daniel Kirchhoff says deputies received a call just after 10 p.m., reporting that shots had been fired at a residence along Route 127. Deputies arrived at the scene and began speaking with Souder, who had barricaded himself in the residence. Negotiators with the sheriff’s office attempted to talk Souder out of the residence, before personnel with the Missouri State Highway Patrol introduced chemical agents to force him out, resulting in his arrest just before 4 a.m. The probable cause statement alleges that Souder threatened that anyone who entered the residence would be “in for a good . . . time”, claiming he had grenades and explosives.

Souder is now in the Saline County Jail on $10,000 bond cash only. An initial court date is pending in Saline County Circuit Court.
