Supporters of a proposed Amtrak stop in Carrollton are growing tired of the lack of progress in adding the town to the nationwide network.

The Carrollton Town Council received an update during last week’s meeting from the committee trying to add the town as a stop on Amtrak’s Southwest Chief, which runs daily between Chicago and Los Angeles, and makes stops in Kansas City and La Plata. Mayor Susie Bliss says the hold up isn’t with Amtrak itself, but the railway the train runs on.

Bliss says among the lawmakers she hopes residents will contact is Northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves, who serves as chairman of the House Transportation Committee.

Carrollton has allocated American Rescue Plan Act funds to develop the Amtrak stop, with support from the Missouri General Assembly.
