The regular meeting of the Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education on Monday, March 31 will follow a forum for three candidates seeking to sit on the board.

The Sedalia Community Educators Association will host the forum beginning at 5 p.m. at the Heckart Performing Arts Center at Smith-Cotton High School. Three candidates—Diana Nichols, Barbara Jean Schrader, and Kyle Yarber—are running for two available seats in the April 8 election. Both seats are for full three-year terms. The school district will provide a livestream for patrons unable to attend.

The school board meeting will then follow at 6:30 p.m., also in the Heckart. Board members are expected to review their options for next year’s school calendar and salary schedule, consider a pair of change orders for the renovation project at Smith-Cotton Junior High, and masonry tuck-pointing at Washington Elementary. The board will also receive an update on staff health insurance, plans to relocate the district’s central office, and the need to update the name of Sedalia Middle School to reflect its reclassification by the state as an elementary school. Nucor of Sedalia is also scheduled to present a donation to the middle school.
