The Missouri State Fair is seeking 11 veterans from across the state to recognize during this year’s fair in Sedalia.
Applications are now available for Missourians to nominate a veteran to honor during the flag retreat ceremonies that occur on each of the 11 days of the fair outside the historic Administration Building. Marketing director Kari Mergen tells KMMO News that details about the application process are available on the Missouri State Fair’s website.
Mergen says the ceremonies, which began in 2019, have given veterans across the state an opportunity to receive gratitude from their fellow Missourians. She recalls one veteran recognized last year who she says was moved by the ceremony.
Applications seeking to recognize veterans with a flag retreat ceremony at this year’s Missouri State Fair are due to fair officials May 26. Mergen says she hopes to have the 11 honorees announced by the Fourth of July. The 123rd Missouri State Fair takes place Aug. 7 through 17 in Sedalia.
