Moberly residents will have the opportunity to renew the city’s Transportation Trust Sales Tax during the April 8th General Municipal Election.
The tax was first passed in 1986, and has been renewed every ten years. This half-cent sales tax provides funding for the city to maintain its streets and sidewalks. Community Relations Manager Scott McGarvey highlights the importance of this sales tax.
The tax brought in $1.5 million in 2024, and has brought in an average of $1.2 million per year since 2015. McGarvey says the city’s Public Work Department has been doing a great job using these funds efficiently to keep the city streets in good condition.
The city’s annual budget typically allocates $750,000 to planned street maintenance, $150,000 to sidewalk installation and upgrades, and $150,000 to miscellaneous unplanned repairs with these funds. The General Municipal Election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8.
