The Marshall City Council made no changes to the planned street program, voting Tuesday, April 1 to approve the project list for the year.

After reporting at the last council meeting that roughly a fourth of planned projects for this year could be dropped from the list, third ward councilman Dan Brandt told the council the Municipal Services and Personnel Committee decided at their recent meeting to tap into available general funds to complete the milling and overlay of nine streets, and slurry coating of 30 other streets, at a total budgeted cost of $788,482. An extended discussion before the vote included Brandt and first ward councilman Drew Green stressing the likelihood that the city may need to ask voters to establish a dedicated sales tax to fund transportation projects.

Also Tuesday night, the council accepted the low bid for surveillance cameras at the Marshall Municipal Airport from Hudson Home Protection of Lee’s Summit, totaling $13,615, and the lone bid for hay harvesting at the airport from Joshua Grant, totaling $10,810. The council also passed resolutions authorizing Marshall Municipal Utilities to complete the purchase of the Crescent Electric property next to the Miami Substation, and signing a master services agreement that makes Toth and Associates the engineer of record for future electrical projects.
