19 agencies are currently working in Pilot Grove following a severe storm that left many structures damaged and destroyed in the city.
Crews are working on-site in Pilot Grove, conducting search-and-rescue operations and cleanup efforts. Public Information Officer Will Johnson says a four mile stretch of Pilot Grove was impacted by a tornado.
Cooper County Emergency Management Director Larry Oerly is reported no injuries or fatalities in the area at this time. Crews are currently assessing the area and removing debris from the roadways. Numerous power-lines were knocked down in the storm, leaving a number of area residents without power. Most of Route 135 from Interstate 70 south to Pilot Grove has reopened, however, Johnson notes there is still a portion of the roadway that is closed.
The Cooper County Commission has also pledged support for the area. Johnson is encouraging the public to avoid Pilot Grove for the next few days to allow for crews to restore the infrastructure and take care of the residents impacted by the storm.
