The Kansas City Royals left nine runners on base, unable to plate anyone as the Milwaukee Brewers claimed a 5-0 shutout Tuesday, April 1 at American Family Field for the Brew Crew’s first win of the season.

Five of the nine runners the Royals stranded were in scoring position, as Brewers starter Chad Patrick struck out five Royals and allowed three hits and three walks in almost five innings of work. Abner Uribe picked up the win in his first Major League appearance in nearly a year, striking out Maikel Garcia to end the Royals’ scoring threat in the top of the sixth. Despite a seven-strikeout performance, Royals starter Michael Lorenzen was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with three walks in almost six innings of work. Throwing errors by Bobby Witt Jr in the third and Kyle Isbel in the sixth allowed runs to score, while Lorenzen conceded a home run to Eric Haase in the third. Christian Yelich added a solo shot in the eighth to right-center field.

It’s the first win of the season for Milwaukee, who collected seven hits on the night, three of them by leadoff hitter Bryce Turang. Meanwhile, the Royals fall to 2-3 on the season. The series concludes Wednesday afternoon at 12:10 p.m., when Cole Ragans gets the start for KC against Freddy Peralta. Pregame begins at 11:30 a.m. on KMMO AM 1300.
