The St Louis Blues set a franchise record with their 12th straight win Saturday, April 5, holding off the Colorado Avalanche with a 5-4 win at Enterprise Center.

The Blues blitzed the Avalanche early, as Zac Bolduc needed just 49 seconds and a power play to slot his shot home. Jake Neighbours made it a 2-0 game seven minutes later, as Robert Thomas recorded assists on both goals. Bolduc and Thomas connected in the second on another power play, following Pavel Buchnevich’s backhander earlier in the period. The Blues’ lead began to buckle when Ross Colton and Miles Wood recorded goals late in the second, and Nathan McKinnon’s 32nd goal of the year late in the third made it just a one-goal game. Sensing the chance to equalize, Colorado lifted their goalie with two minutes remaining; that opened up an opportunity for Thomas to claim an empty-netter. That proved to be the game-winner, as Sam Malinski scored Colorado’s final goal with nine seconds remaining.

Colorado applied pressure throughout, sending 39 shots on goal to the Blues’ 22. Jordan Binnington recorded 35 saves on the night.

With four games to go in the regular season, the Blues now have a four-point advantage on Minnesota for the first wild-card spot. Minnesota have five games remaining and will face Dallas on Sunday afternoon. Calgary lost to Vegas in overtime Saturday night, now putting them eight points behind St Louis, while Vancouver thrashed the Anaheim Ducks 6-2 to now sit ten points behind. Both Calgary and Vancouver have two games in hand versus the Blues.

The Blues head north to Winnipeg to face the league-leading Jets; puck drop Monday night is at 6:30 p.m.
