The Saline County Association of African American Cemeteries is hosting a cemetery cleanup event at Fairview Cemetery in Marshall on Saturday, April 12.

The service project gets underway at the cemetery at 8 a.m. Rebecca Adams says there is still a need for volunteers and tools to help clean up the cemetery.

Adams notes there will also be an in-person headstone workshop led by Kurt Jordan at 10 a.m.

Adams says there are more than 30 African American cemeteries in need of restoration in Saline County. She says that Representative Mark Nolte is interested in helping with future projects. The Malta Bend Memorial American Legion Post is also planning to aid with veteran cemetery cleanups.
