Smith-Cotton High School’s Team SCREAM has their second tournament title of the season, taking top honors this past weekend in Oklahoma.

The team finished first out of 48 teams, forming an alliance with programs from Monument, Colo. and Shawnee, Okla. Speaking to KMMO earlier in the season, head coach Michael Wright says this year’s team is stepping up to the challenge of defending their world championship.

Wright adds that this year’s program, which includes their junior varsity team that also competed in Oklahoma, expanded to 60 students.

At Oklahoma, Team SCREAM’s top-seeded alliance had an uphill battle after being upset in the first playoff round. They battled through the elimination side of the bracket to set up an advantaged final against an alliance that included two teams from suburban Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Liberty. SCREAM claimed both required wins to earn their second blue banner of the season, joining their title from Central Missouri and the second-place banner they brought back from California in the past month.

Team SCREAM now prepares for the FIRST Robotics World Championship, set for April 16th-19th in Houston.
