Two city council members are returning for another two years to the Marshall City Council.

Unofficial results from the Saline County Clerk’s office show John Allen Jr winning another term representing Ward One, picking up 105 votes to Harold Clayton’s 88. Nathan Swisher held off write-in candidate Bob Gauert to continue representing Ward Two. Swisher collected 111 votes, while Gauert secured 24. The open Ward Three seat goes to Jeremy Gibson, who received 75 votes to Kristen Riley’s 65. Harold Simmons was uncontested in Ward Four, earning 57 votes.

Incumbents did not fare as well in school board elections. Malta Bend R-V will need to find a new board president, as Jenna Klinge finished fourth in the race for three open seats. Klinge had 40 votes, falling behind fellow incumbent Eddie Williams, who finished with 44. Challengers Daniel Kiehl and Daniel Kiser prevailed with 68 and 61 votes, respectively. A challenger also unseated a board member in the Miami R-I race, with Courtney Diebel Arndt winning one of two seats with 115 votes. Vicki Bledsoe returns to the board with 114 votes, while secretary/treasurer Abigail Schroeder was third with 57. Jesse James was uncontested in his bid for the unexpired two-year term.

Miami R-I voters also resoundingly rejected Proposition MUSTANGS, which would have built a new gymnasium for the school. 122 voters opposed the measure, while 51 voted in favor.  The two-million dollar bond project would have resulted in the district’s tax levy increasing by 88 cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation.

Crystal Hoyes will return to the Sweet Springs R-VII school board, finishing second with 166 votes. Jacob Barbee won the race with 168 votes, while Guy Trease was third on 121 votes. The Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen will see Tracie Dillon represent Ward One after defeating Wyatt Lea 57-24. Boyd Jones ran unoppposed for Ward Two.
