Voters in Carrollton have elected Keith Higgins to become the town’s next mayor, unseating Susan Bliss.

According to unofficial totals from the Carroll County Clerk’s office, Higgins claimed a 239-204 victory over Bliss to receive the promotion from Ward One Alderman, in the process denying Bliss a full term in office. Bliss had this reaction to the results Wednesday, April 9.

Bliss adds that she’s begun the transition process.

One seat on the Carrollton Town Council was contested in Tuesday’s Municipal Election, which saw Jim Bowen return to the Ward Four seat with 113 votes. Rebecca Mohn had 41 votes while Jimmie Stewart had 27.  Sherry McCoy was unopposed for the Ward Two position.

Elsewhere in Carroll County, the Ward Two seat in Norborne went to Julie McClure, who had 69 votes while Michael Harris received 21 votes. Josh Elliott was unopposed in Ward One, while Jacob DeMint had no opposition in his bid for mayor. The Norborne R-VIII School District’s Proposition PIRATES received nearly 80 percent support, with 233 votes in favor to 61 opposed. The $1.5 million bond measure will go toward the remodeling of the kitchen and cafeteria, installation of a preschool playground, bleachers for the softball field, and additional safety improvements and repairs around campus. Vice President Chris Leabo was re-elected to the school board; he’ll be joined on the Norborne board by Suzanne Hamilton.

Wyatt Davenport and Dara Crowe were elected to the Tina-Avalon R-II Board of Education. Davenport is the current secretary and received 87 votes, while Crowe picked up 66. Alex Heussner received 25 votes.
