The Marshall Philharmonic Orchestra is concluding its 62nd Season Sunday, April 13, with Assistant Professor of Music at Central Methodist University Amy Johns.

Johns, a native of Macon, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

Her students have consistently been awarded opportunities to participate in national competitions in classical, musical theater, spiritual, and contemporary music categories, garnered acceptance into young artist programs such as the Chicago Lyric Summer Opera Program, and have been accepted into prestigious graduate schools.

On Sunday, Johns will be performing two Rodgers and Hammerstein finale selections from the duo’s beloved musicals, “Climb Every Mountain” from “The Sound of Music” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from “Carousel”. Additionally, she will perform an extraordinary work by Aaron Copland that embraces the work of American poet, Emily Dickinson.

Sunday’s concert will further showcase the talent of the highly acclaimed Marshall High School Orchestra and its director, Jordan Summers. The 50-plus member orchestra has numerous accolades under Mr. Summers’ baton and is an invaluable link to the community orchestra’s continued success.

The concert will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Harold L. Lickey Auditorium of Bueker Middle School. The concert is free, open to the public, and is suitable for audiences of all ages.
