Miami R-1 School District Superintendent Jacob Reiner spoke to KMMO News about the results of Tuesday’s Municipal Election.

Miami voters rejected Proposition MUSTANGS, which was a tax levy increase that would have built a new gymnasium for the school. 122 voters opposed the measure, while 51 voted in favor. Reiner says this was a great learning experience for the district.

The two-million dollar bond project would have resulted in the district’s tax levy increasing by 88 cents per 100 dollars of assessed valuation. Miami voters also decided two races for the Board of Education. Courtney Diebel Arndt was elected to the board with 115 votes, Vicki Bledsoe now returns to the board with 114 votes, while Abigail Schroeder finished third with 57. Jesse James ran unopposed for the unexpired two-year term. Reiner says the district is excited these individuals represent the district on the Board of Education.

Reiner expressed his gratitude for all the voters in this election. The school board’s next meeting is Monday, April 21.
