The Marshall Owls will have new skippers for two of their girls’ programs next fall.

During executive session of their meeting Tuesday, the Marshall Public Schools Board of Education accepted the resignation of Diane Schlesselman as head girls basketball coach, and hired Ramone Powell to take over the role. Schlesselman went 15-64 in her three seasons as the Owls coach, including a 6-20 mark last season that saw the Owls go 2-8 in the NCMC. Powell will make his way from the Burns Athletic Complex across town, where he’s been an assistant coach for the Missouri Valley men’s program for 13 seasons.

A coaching change is also in the works for the girls’ volleyball team. Allie Schulte will take over the role, as well as become an assistant coach for the basketball team. The Marshall native played volleyball, basketball, and soccer for the Owls in high school and later joined the Central Methodist Volleyball team. She’ll succeed Lindsey Blaylock, who will now focus on the volleyball program at Bueker Middle School. Last season the Owls were 3-17, including a four-set victory over Raytown South in the first round of districts.
