A decision on the district’s health insurance is weighing on the Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education ahead of their meeting Monday, April 14.
At their most recent meeting two weeks ago, the district received a presentation of their insurance options from Holmes Murphy. Supt. Dr Todd Fraley told KMMO News that rising costs prompted the district to explore their options.
Also complicating the renewal process is the recent fallout from the University of Missouri Health System no longer accepting Blue Cross Blue Shield.
One alternative presented would have seen the district fund its own plan. Fraley says that would entail the district taking on a greater risk, and potentially cost more money.
The district’s health insurance plans and a lease purchase funding option are on the Sedalia 200 School Board’s unfinished business agenda before the board adjourns sine die and swears Diana Nichols and Barbara Schrader in for another three-year term. The board will also consider a bid for a concrete project at Smith-Cotton High School and discuss the prospect of adding baseball and softball programs at Smith-Cotton Junior High.
The board meeting begins Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Heckart Performing Arts Center at Smith-Cotton High School.
