
The Marshall Owls let a two-run lead slip away in the sixth inning, allowing four unanswered runs from the Mexico Bulldogs in a 5-3 loss on Tuesday, April 15.
The Owls got on board in the second after an RBI double from Ayson Bolling. The Owls added two more runs in the third inning thanks to an RBI triple from Brock Marshall and an RBI single from Kye Wilcoxson.
Brody Kueker cruised through the first three innings of the ballgame, only allowing two base-runners. He ran into some trouble in the fourth after Drew Demint got on base with a triple, then came home on a base hit from Brady Fox.
The Mexico bats came alive again in the sixth inning, as the Bulldogs got four straight hits to take a 4-3 lead. Landon Hilderman drove home another run for the Bulldogs to give Mexico a two-run cushion.
Chase Thompson got his third hit of the day to lead off the seventh inning, but he was stranded at third as Fox shut down the Marshall lineup, getting three groundouts to end the game.
Kueker picked up the loss, going seven innings, allowing five runs on nine hits. Demint got the win after six innings of work, and Fox earned the save.
Marshall falls to 1-8 on the season. The Owls will be back in action Thursday to host a triangular with Oak Grove and Summit Christian Academy. Marshall will take on the Panthers first at 2 p.m., then wrap up the day with the Summit Christian Eagles at about 6 p.m. Both games will air on KMMO AM 1300 and on KMMO.com.
