The Kansas City Royals were limited to two hits from Bobby Witt Jr, one of which cleared the left-center field fence, in a 4-1 loss Monday, April 14 at the New York Yankees.
Witt’s third-inning blast put the Royals on the board, but he proved to be the only issue for the Yankees pitching, as the only other hit they allowed was a single to Witt in the ninth. Yankees pitchers allowed just four walks on the night, while Royals starter Seth Lugo was pelted with solo home runs by Jazz Chisholm Jr in the fourth to tie the game, then go-ahead bombs in the fifth from Trent Grisham, Ben Rice, and Austin Wells. Lugo took the loss, going 6.2 innings and allowing the four runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts.
The Royals remain third in the AL Central with a record of 8-9. Michael Wacha takes the mound for the second game of the series Tuesday evening. Pregame on KMMO-FM 102.9 begins at 5:30 p.m., with first pitch at 6:05 p.m.
