Nearly a week after a fatal explosion in Lexington that stemmed from a stricken gas main, utility crews are continuing the process of restoring gas service to the city.
Liberty Utilities reported “steady” progress in reconnecting service to homes in the northern and eastern part of Lexington, with gas flow restored to another 330 homes and businesses Tuesday, April 15. The utility estimates they have another 660 customers to reconnect before service is fully restored to Lexington. Crews from four other states, including Georgia and New Hampshire, have been part of the effort.
Customers who are not present when crews arrive to restore service will receive a door tag with a phone number listed to call and schedule a return visit. Liberty Utilities reminds customers that if you smell gas, you should leave the area immediately and call 911 from a safe location, or the utility’s gas emergency line at 1-800-406-9220.
The City of Lexington has established a page on their website listing resources for residents impacted by last week’s gas explosion, as well as ways for the public to donate assistance.
