Three consecutive walks and a bases-clearing double turned the tables on the Kansas City Royals, as they saw a two-run lead on the New York Yankees fall apart in the sixth inning with a 4-2 loss Tuesday, April 15 at Yankee Stadium.

The Royals had built a lead in the third with MJ Melendez hitting a leadoff home run, followed by an RBI double by Bobby Witt Jr with two outs. Michael Wacha had pitched well for five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. After allowing a leadoff single to Aaron Judge, Wacha punched out the next two batters, but then gave up walks to Jazz Chisholm Jr and Anthony Volpe. Angel Zerpa came in to relieve Wacha, and promptly walked Austin Wells to allow the Yankees to score. Jasson Domínguez then hit a bases-clearing RBI double to complete the Yankees’ scoring.

The Royals left five runners in scoring position, as they were limited to five hits on the night. Wacha allowed three runs in his 5.2 innings, on four hits and two walks, while striking out four. Zerpa was charged with his second blown save of the season.

The Royals are now 8-10 on the season. They look to Kris Bubic to prevent a sweep by the Yankees when he takes the mound Wednesday. Pregame on KMMO-FM 102.9 begins at 5:30 p.m., with first pitch at 6:05 p.m.
